My name is Leah Garner (she/her/hers). I feel the support of a doula is a blessing that no birth giver or family should do without. To ensure my clients have the most current evidence based information to make their decisions in birth and newborn care, I continue to further my education. I am a DONA Certified Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Birth Arts International Breastfeeding Educator, and Certified Childbirth Educator. I have studied Spinning Babies and am a Trained Novice for the use of the Rebozo. I also am trained through Heart of Herbs in the use of aromatherapy.
My Story... My Calling
I have been married to my wonderful husband John since 2005. We have three children. My son Daniel was born by Emergency C-Section in 2009, my daughter Anna was born by VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean) in 2011, and my son Luke was born in 2014 by natural water birth. All three of my children have been breastfed.
My appreciation for postpartum care began following the birth of our first son. Our entire support network was infected with a bad case of the stomach flu within five days of the birth of our son. Recovering from a C-Section and the flu; I was in no position to be alone. My husband reached out to the women in our church and organized support for me and Daniel through the next two weeks. It was a blessed experience to be cared for by the women in our community.
With the birth of my daughter and second son, I once again felt the benefits of the support provided to me and my family. This time through my birth doulas which helped me through my drug free VBACs. With this understanding, I have aided many mothers following their deliveries, sharing personal experience and knowledge in breast feeding, child care, and emotional support. Doing this has brought me joy and I feel that this is my calling.
