Birth Doula Services

A woman's body is made to labor and birth her child.  Knowledge of labor and confidence in one's ability to give birth is a powerful combination. A doula helps put this combination into practice; giving the woman support and confidence throughout her labor.

As every child is different, so is the birth that brings them into the world.  Natural, medicated, induced, VBAC, cesarean, and everything in between; all are birth and deserve support.  The needs of a person giving birth are also just as varied during labor.  A doula can supply a variety of tools, positions, and comfort measures meeting the needs of the mother as they arise.  A birth doula can help the mother and partner create a birth plan outlining their preferences and goals for the birth.
The Doula perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience.  At the same time, the doula enables the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level. Woman and partner become closer through the experience of birth.
The experienced and continuous support of the doula gives confidence to the mother and partner as they go through the birth experience.
This support has been shown to:
  • Decrease labor length
  • Reduce requests for pain medication
  • Lower rates of cesarean birth
  • Increase satisfaction with the birth

“If a doula were a drug,
it would be unethical
not to use it.”
